Forex (ang. Foreign Exchange) – termin najczęściej używany w związku z międzynarodowym rynkiem walutowym. Forex jest największym rynkiem na świecie, obroty sięgają około 4,5 bilionów dolarów amerykańskich dziennie. Jednak jest to wartość obrotu, a nie zaangażowanych środków, gdyż rynek ten jest bardzo mocno lewarowany. Każdej transakcji może bowiem odpowiadać jedynie 0,2 proc. wartości kontraktu, zatem gotówka angażowana w tym przypadku jest 500 razy mniejsza. Gdyby wszystkie transakcje odbywały się przy takim lewarze, dałoby to kwotę zaangażowanych środków równą 14 mld dolarów, czyli większą niż obroty na giełdach papierów wartościowych, gdzie nie występuje dźwignia finansowa.
